Dal Makhni without the Guilt (Healthy way)




Calories per serving Without the garnish (1 cup) - 230 Kcal
Ingredients



  • Urad dal- three cups ( with the black skin on) wash and soak it in clean water overnight

  • Tomato-2 cup(Finely chopped)

  • Onion-1 1/2 cup(Finely chopped)

  • Ginger-grated (1 inch or a little more )

  • Garlic -1 pod (mashed or finely chopped)

  • Green chillies(Finley chopped)

  • kasuri methi-2 palm full

  • Milk-1 1/2 cup(Low fat )

  • Asafotida-a pinch

  • Salt to taste

  • Red chili power-to 1/2 tsp

  • Oil 4 tsp


  • One tsp Ghee(optional)


Procedure





  1. Pressure cook the urad dal with the soaked water and 1 cup milk for up to 5-6 whistles


  2. Add the chopped tomatoes and grated ginger with the dal and cook in an open vessel until the Dal turns pinkish brown or (Cook for at least 15 minutes)

  3. Add water when necessary


  4. Heat a pan add oil and 1 teaspoon of ghee


  5. After the ghee melts add the chopped onions and garlic paste


  6. After it turns translucent and the kasuri mathi(crushing it with your palm slowly)


  7. Add the chili powder and asafotida immediately off the flame and pour this into the dal and mix it well


  8. Cook for 10 minutes and serve hot

Garnish it with chopped coriander leaf , green chillies and butter(optional)
serve hot with roti or fried rice
